As stated on http://hpsdr.org, "The HPSDR is an open source (GNU type) hardware and software project intended as a 'next generation' Software Defined Radio (SDR) for use by Radio Amateurs ('hams') and Short Wave Listeners (SWLs)."

My inclusion in this project is simply to experience the newly developing Software Defined Radio trend, and to build a transceiver capable of complete software control. To this end, I have acquired the Atlas bus (a base of six sockets which will hold the completed radio), the card named Janus (a high performance sound card), and the OZYmandias interface controller card to connect the radio to the the real world.

Unlike so many others, I do not yet have the RF portions needed to complete the Radio. (Although the SoftRock series will be my first attempt) When I do start to assemble the radio, I will have lots of questions as to how it will work, what software to use, how everything hooks together, etc. I am fairly ignorant about this new trend, and without jumping into the commercial end (Flex Radio, WinRadio, etc.) I hope this will be a way to learn. But what do I need? As I work on this project, I will keep this website updated as to my progress.
