The Drawers, as they are called, are simply that -- drawers with a frame in the front instead of a drawer front and the radio or equipment will sit on the floor of the drawer. By using full extension slides, the drawers will extend all the way out and allow access to the back of the equipment. I got this idea as I was building a set of kitchen cabinets for my wife. The wood will be red oak (left over from the kitchen) with plywood sides.

The drawers pictured above will accommodate rack equipment when I screw rack rails to the sides of the drawers. The ones in the drawing below are too small for rack mounted equipment, but will serve the same purpose for any equipment I place within the drawer.
